A meeting of West Dean Parish Council was
held at 7.30pm on 25th March 2003 in King George's Hall.
Present: Mrs S Gruzelier (Chairman), Mr
P Dawkins (Vice-Chairman), Mr P Hargrave, Miss C Warry,
Mr M Rowe, Mr R Parsons (Clerk), District Cllr Mike
Hewitt and two members of the public.
14/03 Public Comment: None.
15/03 Declaration of Interest: Cllrs
Rowe and Hargrave declared a prejudicial interest in a
SWAG application from the Village Hall committee and left
the meeting when the matter was discussed.
16/03 Minutes - of the 11th February
meeting, having been circulated, were agreed and signed
by the Chairman.
17/03 Matters Arising:
* Ref:05/03 - Cllr Hargrave reported that he could see no
easy way to lower the postbox. The Post Office will be
contacted again to request re-positioning of the Post Box.
* Ref:30/02 - A quote from Lockerley Stone and Masonry
Ltd for chemically cleaning and leveling the war memorial
has been received and the grant application can now
proceed. Cllr Dawkins suggested that the War Graves
Commission might be able to help financially if the
Friends of War Memorials charity were unable to.
* Ref:51/02 - Cllr Gruzelier reported that she was
waiting to hear from the Youth Liaison Officer about the
proposed playingfield improvements. She was also
concerned that the youth club initiative appeared to have
failed to attract enough parent participation.
18/03 Playground Safety Inspection - is
on Tuesday, 8th April.
19/03 Local Elections on 1st May: -
nomination papers must be delivered to SDC by noon on 1st
April.
20/03 Finance: * The PC approved the

SALISBURY - The PC have supported this application.
23/03 Public Inquiry into the status of land in
West Dean: The outcome of the Public Inquiry is
awaited and the non-statutory inquiry into the Village
Green application is scheduled for 21st May in West Dean
Village Hall.
24/03 SWAG Application - for the
rewiring of King George's Hall, West Dean. The PC will
give full support.
25/03 Correspondence: The PC noted the
following correspondence: * Participatory Arts Workshops.
* 9th April - Agenda 21 meeting at Salisbury City Hall. *
Monthly circulars from WALC. * Minutes of WTPC meetings.
* Cllr Gruzelier reported that she had written to the
relevant MPs, Parish Councils and Local Planning
departments in connection with the consultation meeting
on 6th March, about the disposal of the Dean Hill depot.
Cllr Warry reported that she understood English Nature
was taking an active interest in the future of the Dean
Hill SSSI.
26/03 The Annual Parish Council meeting
is scheduled for Tuesday, 6th May 2003.
The Annual Parish meeting will be held
prior to the Annual PC meeting commencing at 7:00pm. It
was agreed that representatives of both Wiltshire and
Hampshire Police forces should be invited to the Annual
Parish meeting.
27/03 Any Other Business: * Cllr
Hargrave agreed to find out about the telephone kiosk
light. * The Clerk will organise the installation of the
additional lighting column on the Village Green at the
earliest opportunity.
