Richard Parsons, the INDEPENDENT
candidate
to represent Alderbury and Whiteparish Ward on
Salisbury District Council.
A
safe pair of hands? Richard Parsons at
West Dean is your Independent Candidate standing
for Election in the Alderbury and Whiteparish
Ward of Salisbury District Council on 1st May
2003.
Born and bred locally from farming 'stock',
Richard, 53, is the eldest son of the late WJL
Parsons whose family have farmed at Church Farm,
West Dean for over 100 years. He is an active
member of both the Local Branch of the Federation
of Small Businesses and the Salisbury and
District Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Married to Gillian, who works as a receptionist
at Salisbury District Hospital, they have two
teenage daughters who have been educated at West
Tytherley Primary School and St Edmunds Girls
School in Laverstock. The eldest is currently on
a Raleigh expedition to Namibia in South West
Africa before taking up a place at Oxford Brookes
University in September next. Richard is
particularly keen to encourage Youth Development
in South Wiltshire so that the next generation
will want to contribute positively to the future
prosperity of the area.
Richard has been involved in Parish Council
affairs for the last 12 years as Clerk to West
Dean PC and more recently as Parish Council Clerk
at Odstock PC, Grimstead PC and Landford PC. He
also acts as one of the area representatives on
the Executive Committee of the Wiltshire
Association of Local Councils.
He believes in the continued expansion of
technology within Salisbury District Council,
enabling people to view and comment directly on
such matters as Planning Applications, Waste Tips
and Affordable Local Housing. To this end he has
created many websites for Parish Councils and
Community Initiatives where reports of meetings
can be viewed with links to relevant
documentation. His commitment to local issues is
unquestionable; he made a significant
contribution to the recent Local Agenda 21 Rio+10
Salisbury Earth Festival and has helped several
Local Parish Councils obtain project funding.
Richard believes that local government should be
effective and unobtrusive. He has described
himself as being 'INDEPENDENT'
because Local Government is about Local People
and Local Issues. If elected he will use all of
his resources to influence Local Government in
South Wiltshire on issues that are of concern to
all parishioners.
There are five candidates for the three
Councillors who will represent the Alderbury and
Whiteparish Ward on Salisbury District Council
for the next four years. Most importantly,
everyone who is eligible to vote, should
vote. That's democracy in action!!
Remember...... to vote at the
Local Elections on 1st May......
and vote for the Independent
Candidate, Richard Philip Parsons.
